1st Timer's Guide to Whitetail Resort

Preparing and planning ahead will help make your first time visit to Whitetail much more enjoyable. This section of our guide will help you plan before you leave your home, and give you guidance on what to do once you arrive at the resort.

It all starts in your closet...

What To Wear

By dressing properly, you'll stay comfortable no matter what Mother Nature throws at you.

  • Dress in layers. A number of lighter layers allow you to adjust your clothing as the temperature changes.
  • Wear a base layer of long underwear or tights.
  • Warm collared shirt, sweater or fleece.
  • Water and wind resistant pants are the best bet, and you will be very glad you have them. Snow or ski pants are ideal, but jeans are OK as long as you bring an extra pair. Avoid sweat pants, they get wet very quickly! Be sure your pants are wide enough at the bottom of the legs to fit over large boots.
  • Jacket or shell with a high collar, once again water and wind resistant is best.
  • High socks. Bring a couple of extra pairs of socks - the higher, the better. Avoid socks with big, thick seams if possible.
  • Eye protection. Either sunglasses or goggles.
  • Gloves or mittens. Gloves allow more freedom of movement, but mittens are warmer. Avoid knit gloves, they get wet very quickly.
  • Warm hat that covers your ears. The old saying "If your feet are cold, put on a hat" is true!
  • Sunscreen and lip balm, SPF 15 or greater. Even on cloudy days it is very easy to get too much sun when on the snow.
  • Be sure to bring extra clothes to change into for the ride home!
  • You will also need a driver's license or credit card to rent skis or a snowboard. Please bring them with you to the rental center.

The Whitetail Mountain Sports Shop, conveniently located just steps from the slopes, carries everything listed above. Stop by the shop upon your arrival to Whitetail and our friendly staff will gladly help you prepare for your day on the Mountain.

Arriving At Whitetail

Parking

There is plenty of free parking at Whitetail Resort. If you arrive early in the day, you will probably get to park close to the lodge area. For later arrivals, convenient shuttle buses run between the parking areas and the ticket area. There are unloading zones in the main circle in front of the ticketing area. Please be sure to bring everything you need from your car and always lock your vehicle.

Mountain Hosts

Our NSAA Award Winning Mountain Host Staff are here to help you every step of the way. If you need any kind of assistance, simply look for their green jackets in the front plaza area. As you walk or ride the shuttle into the main circle, the ticket windows will be located up the front steps and to your right.

Lift Ticket Window

The ticket window is your first stop. All the tickets that you will need for rentals and lessons will be purchased here. The cashiers at the ticket windows will be happy to direct you to the restrooms and a place to store your belongings if you need to make a pit stop.

Guest Service

The Guest Service Office is located just to the right of the ticket window. If you have any questions or would like to purchase a season pass or advantage card please stop in. This is where you will purchase the Mountain Passport after your beginner lesson and day on the mountain. Don't forget to get your lift ticket punched from your instructor - don't worry that is discussed later in this guide.
